Does anyone have details on the colours (colors) that the British army painted their guns in the 18th century? I've ransacked my library, scoured the internet (encountering many fascinating articles about Minden and Fontenoy), but all to no avail.
http://www.miniatures.de/colour-18th-century-artillery.html has a useful list; British artillery is also shown in a famous Morier painting - medium blue with black metal.
Well color me wrong . . . I would have guessed (not knowing) that the gun carriages would have been red . . . *sigh* . . . I would have been wrong again . . . and, sadly, not for the first time.
I have seen a painting of Cumberland that had an artillery piece in it painted grey. Of course this may have been a captured piece or simply an error on the part of the artist as the woodwork was painted grey in the C19th
